Emergency eye care - EVEN AFTER HOURS!
Everyone has accidents! If you get metal or rust in your eyes, we can remove it. DON'T WAIT! Speed is critical when
it comes to removing debris and chemicals. The longer you wait, the worse it will be.
We can remove metal and rust, plastics, glass, gravel and plant material. We can flush out chemicals that get splashed
into the eyes.
Prevention with safety glasses is best. But when that accident happens call us right away!
With the use of "bandage contact lenses" we can help your eye to heal faster and you will be more comfortable.
If your emergency happens after normal hours, please call the doctor's paging service at: (815) 561-5898.
Eye exams for glasses and contact lenses.
We offer exams for the fitting of glasses and contacts.
Exams include pressure testing, vision field testing, measuring of the curve of the cornea, a check of the color vision,
refraction, external and internal health evaluation. Dilated eye exams are encouraged and offered to every patient.
Diabetic eye exams
In addition to the standard eye exam, diabetics need to have their eyes dilated at least once a year. By dilating the pupil
the whole retina is visible and it is easier to see damage to the retina from the diabetes. Digital retinal photography
is often used to document the changes in the retina and these photos are then sent to the patient's primary care
physician to keep the physician informed of the eye's health. Optical Coherence Tomography is often used to check
the health of the retina, especially the macular region.
Dry eye care
Many patients have dry eye syndrome. This is a feeling of scratchy eyes or feeling like you have sand in the eyes. Dry eye
syndrome is often accompanied by eyes that water and tear, which would seem contrary to the diagnosis.
There are many treatments for dry eye sufferers. The most simple treatment is aggressive therapy with eye lubricants. If the
eye lubricants are not enough, then we can use little "drain plugs" to plug the drain canal of the eye lid which helps to
hydrate the eye. We can, also, use prescription eye drops like RESTASIS to help increase tear production.
Complicated contact lens fitting
Fitting of contacts for high prescriptions or high astigmatism.
Fitting of contact lenses for patients with keratoconus.
Allergy related eye care
Itchy eyes can ruin a day!
Even when treated with some antihistamines, the eyes can still itch. Our doctors can prescribe antihistamine eye drops
that help relieve the itch so you can concentrate on your day, not your allergies.
Glaucoma diagnosis and treatment
Glaucoma is a silent thief! It robs you of your vision slowly, often so slowly that you don't even notice the loss until it's too
late.
The glaucoma patient requires some specialized testing to get the most accurate information about the eye's health.
This testing includes very accurate testing of the pressure in the eyes called "contact tonometry", threshold vision field
testing to provide the most detailed information about the vision field, advanced OCT scanning of the optic nerve head
and the retinal nerve fiber layer (the wiring layer of the retina).
Retinal photography
Digital photography is the best way to document changes in the retina. The high resolution photos provide excellent
documentation and reference.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
The OCT is a powerful tool for diagnosis, documentation and monitoring of various problems with the retina and the optic
nerve head. This instrument looks beneath the surface of the retina to reveal the structure and health of the deeper
layers.
